I note they have removed the lagging from the M1 at Strasburg. I presume they saved the old jacketing, at least to use for patterns to make new sheets?

I was at the Museum's PRR. Days in June. ( I put on the PRR. Airhorn display each year) Anyway, an older volunteer told me that the jacketing had been removed from 6755, as well as others, to get rid of the asbestose, however, the jacketing has not been replaced yet due to a temporary Shortage of funds.

I understand that funding may not be available to replace the jacketing right now. What I'm concerned about is whether they saved the old sheets, to either reuse them or use them as patterns to cut new ones. Making new ones from scratch, without patterns, looks like it would be a nightmare on that Belpaire boiler. An awful lot of engines have had their lagging removed and the jacket sheets simply discarded, making jacket replacement much more difficult. I hope they did not do that on the M1.

Bob:

At the time of removal, the jacketing was labeled and preserved.
