Lots of photos lately on the ABPR site of Los Angeles' narrow gauge trolley operations, which lasted into the early 1960s. Just out of curiosity, how much of this trackage might still be buried beneath the asphalt?
Post subject: Slight change of topic: tracks beneath the asphalt

In a California town there are tracks to a 3' gauge RR buried under a street. If you know where to look you can find them rather easily. There is no track up to the crossing on either side, and there is a heavily used Standard gauge crossing 15' down the street.
I would like to see them brought back up to the surface, espically since they aren't too far from a museum w/ information on the RR and would draw people's interest.
This would also preserve that piece of ROW if ever the funds to re-lay track were raised.
Has anyone here gone through, or looked into, a similer proceedure.
Thank you,
Curtis F.
Andrew,
Why it's the old stomping gound of NCNG #9 (aka. NCO #14 & SPNG #1), Colfax, Ca. The rails are buried a few feet South of the UP (SP) main line. But, I have a feeling you already knew that or you wouldn't have asked "which town." ;-)
I know of a few other cases of this elseware California, but that is the one I used for an example.
Curtis F.
