B&O Docksides

Reproduced in just about every modeling scale in zamac, plastic and brass, here are the two B&O 0-4-0Ts at Baltimore in June of 1940:

Photos of the models are common, photos of the real thing, less so. Too bad one didn't survive for the B&O Museum. What year were they cut up?

I'll have to look it up, but as I recall, there were 4 C-16's as built #'s 96-99. All were oil-fired 0-4-0ST's, for dockside service in Baltimore City. Later, 96 + 99 were converted to coal-fired tender engines and went probably to Wilmington or Philadelphia.

97 + 98 were renumbered 897 + 898 around 1951 and retired in 1953.

With all the models Varney sold, they would be naturals for the B&O Museum, but it didn't happen. There may have been a philosophy that anything 20th Century was modern junk, not historic antiques. Remember, Striegel saved USRA 4500 and President 5300.
