Old and recent photos of 2-8-0 457 now in Mason City, Iowa. Was last used by American Crystal Sugar Co. there. In need of attention, like most park engines. http://www.eldora.net/lyndon/locos/steam457.html And here, the 471, when still at a brickyard in Chaska, Minnesota in 1956. Today at Annandale, Minnesota, at an aborted rail private RR museum. http://www.steamlocomotive.com/mnsteam/mstl471-3.jpg And the "mystery" engine, 452, which was still running at the American Crystal Sugar factory in the late-1950s. Surprisingly, no Twin Cities enthusiasts seem to know just what happened to it, but it was apparently scrapped. http://www.eldora.net/lyndon/locos/steam1.html http://www.steamlocomotive.com/mnsteam/mstl452.jpg And scroll down here for more details: http://www.steamlocomotive.com/mnsteam/ Plus this photo of just-shopped sister 451 (scrapped), showing how they should look if restored: http://www.steamlocomotive.com/mnsteam/mstl451.jpg |
