Post subject: | StJ&LC abandonment information |
Lots of information here on the abandonment of the St. Johnsbury & Lamoille County/Lamoille Valley RR in Vermont, written from a pro-trail stance. Dismantling has already begun on the east end of the 98-mile state-owned line. http://members.tripod.com/chestnut_street/stjlc.html In a move thought to be linked with the Vermont abandonment, Guilford Transportation is reportedly surveying the southern end of the former Maine Central Mountain Division near Portland, Maine for dismantling. The route, when built, was a through link between Portland and the Great Lakes port at Ogdensburg, NY, via the Rutland RR on the west end. Conway Scenic RR operates on the center portion of the Mountain Division, on state-owned trackage in New Hampshire. |
