The 3759 was the last Santa Fe engine to operate on the west coast, on fantrips in 1955. When the caboose was added to the display, the engine was reportedly moved ahead to make room by local citizens and a big rope.

Thanks for the links! I spent every summer and nearly every winter growing up crawling all over this locomotive. Its still one of my favorites.

And, yes, the city of Kingman is very proud of it. The former power plant across the street is being developed as a history museum and is including information on the railroad and its relationship with Kingman. Also, I have heard that the ATSF Depot, located just down the street, is being restored.

She's a gorgeous locomotive and the City of Kingman takes wonderful care of it. I was told that Grand Canyon Railway tried to get her for refurbishing but Kingman turned them down. Still, she's in a dry environment, well taken care of, and a real part of the public pride. All park locos should be in this condition.

Living near San Francisco with in-laws in and a Daughter going to College in Tucson, Kingman is a good stopping point if you are taking your time going south.

Kingman has lots to offer, the loco, The Powerhouse museum (they have a great, modern interpretive area covering Route 66… We railroaders could learn from this museum), a second associated local history museum, a historic house a few blocks away, and a great Mexican restaurant across from the Santa Fe depot. The downtown while not especially healthy is still there, and safe. Just over the hill is a modern town with common strip commercial development.

There is a canyon just West of town with lots of photo opportunities for those who are looking for great photos of modern railroading.

Our older daughter lives in Kingman and we were there for Christmas. As usual, the city had the locomotive all decorated with a wreath and lights. I always check on 3759 when there. Love to have dinner at the Dam Bar, and now they have a Cracker Barrel there.
