The 1955 scene: http://www.linkmuseum.org/1955.html The scene last night, after the original pose and after the Buckingham Branch RR crashed the party: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=91941 Lighting by Alex Mayes and Steve Barry. Our thanks to the Link Museum staff, Osram Sylvia, Norfolk Southern, the Buckingham Branch RR, the town of Waynesboro, and all the others who made this occasion possible. (Yes, I was there, but I shot film, and ain't no way I'm getting one-hour processing on a Saturday in the middle of a snowstorm!) |

Wouldn't it have been great if all those involved could have borrowed ex-N&W 475 (the only operating ex-N&W steamer) to stand in for the streamlined K2a? NS may have a "no steam" policy for operations, but could have shoved train with an unseen diesel. |

Roanoke, and N&W streamlined J 611, and 2-6-6-4 1218, are about 100 miles down the track. A couple switches, maximum. Strasburg is about 275 rail miles away via Amtrak and Harrisburg. Just bring up 611 and I'll set my raincoat and bicycle tire on fire in the smokebox. >;-D |

Guess that could work too. Could probably be jerry-rigged for lights, too. |
