Post subject:  The Scotty engine
AT&SF 1010 (last extant locomotive from the "Death Valley Scotty" train) on the turntable at Sacramento, in recent years. I believe they have chugged this one around on compressed air a time or two.

I saw her back in August when I went to Sacramento for the first time (FYI, if you ever have the opportunity to see this amazing museum, DO SO. I've seen almost every RR museum in the US, and this is in the top five in my opinion). I saw her, and she's in very sad shape. I talked with a volunteer getting the Bowker (which was still in it's "Wild Wild West" paint job) ready to go over to their storage facility. He said that the Scotty engine was run a few times on compressed air but it's not scheduled for any restoration anytime on the horizon, and certainly not to run.

This is the same engine that is in very sad shape?

Yes, and keep in mind that your photo was taken TEN YEARS AGO, and a coat of paint does not a complete restoration make.
I got a really good look at her in the shed back in August, and YES, she's in sad shape. Even the people at the museum agreed with that assesment!
