Is anyone out there affiliated with a museum possesing an alco/rogers built 25-30ton 0-4-0 with a construction date between say 1910-1920. If so please contact "Tracey" tbchocolate@yahoo.com. Primarily she is needing photos of a loco that is close to as built as possible. |

There is a builders photo of GOAT in the Savannah archives somewhere. I got it from the ALCO Historical Society - no doubt they have some other examples available as well. dave |

They did at one point However, after they moved the library from the museum site to the room at the "main office" many things have gone missing including all files on goat. On a related topic, they are yet to start showing the site video(which is basically the development of savannah and the central of georgia as seen through the eyes of the revolutionary and civil wars with very little information on the railroad itself and a large # of historically incorrect information) to the general public...this is why the library was moved. |

And after Angel spent all that time organizing and cataloging...what a waste. OTOH, given the problems with the film, perhaps it is for the best that they aren't showing it? And we spent a couple days and nights shoving stuff around the RH with GOAT for the videographer, bet most of that went to waste as well. Which still leaves the option of ordering the builders photos. I recall it was tied up with a NRHS chapter somewhere up thereabouts. Hardaway Contracting Company would be the original customer. dave |

I have the builder's plate from one of those locomotives that is a sister to the one in Savannah. It is Alco-Rogers #53885 and was built for stock at Alco-Rogers and later sold to the Hardaway Construction Company. I believe the the #53880 is the one at Savannah. If you want to see a photo of the plate, please email me and I will forward to copy directly to you. These were some of the LAST locomotive built at the Rogers plant before it was closed. |

Bob, The locomotive in the photograph looks very much like the little saddle tanker at the Ohio Central. I know that it did come from Tennesse. Is this the same locomotive? It is the Number 3. JD Johnson, Morehead and North Fork Railroad Historian |

It was built at ALCO (Cooke), 66308/1926. A closer match to the one at Savannah may be ALCO (Rogers) 53115/1914. It was purchased by the LA Highway Department and numbered 32, and is preserved at Travel Town Museum, Griffith Park, off US I-5 & St 134, Los Angeles, CA. -James Hefner Hebrews 10:20a Surviving World Steam Project |
