As Eddie Murphy would say, "Now that's a Fire". Notice the cabs have all collapsed. Also interesting is that there is virtually no remnant of the roundhouse itself, not a wall, a fallen truss or smokejack, anything. Notice how many of these engines are compounds...Certainly dates the picture.

Boy, that's a fire all right. Roundhouse fires were very common, what with the combination of fire and combustibles in them. This led to the use of more and more concrete in later roundhouses, even to where the roof was made of poured concrete. Some newer "smokeless" Canadian roundhouses didn't even allow locomotives with a fire in the firebox inside, with the fires being dumped before entry and being rebuilt outside. Dead engines were charged with house steam if need be, to get them outdoors. Nice photo, thanks.
