Ran across this on the RumorWebDiscussion list:

Just thought you might want to include a somewhat unknown railroad
logging relic I discovered in the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia on a
recent trip. A guide book to the OS showed a notation of "abandoned
railroad logging equipment" at a boat landing on the east side of the
swamp at a place called Kingfisher.

A quick trip up there while vacationing in SC and Fl during February
confirmed there is an interesting piece(s) of abandoned equipment
there. Kingfisher is about 5 miles back a sandy road from the
highway.

The exact location is once arriving at the boat landing there is a
mowed field directly behind the parking lot in the direction toward
the swamp. In the mowed field there is a job johny on a platform
(keeps snakes out?) and just to the left in the heavy undergrowth can
be seen the crane poking up thru the brush.

There are a number of iron remnants of cars and track appearing in
the brush as well as the ex-Army 4x4 converted to run on rails (nice
job) with an A-frame and winch on the back end. Looks like loader and
motive power combination vehicle. Remains of several cars and track
extend off into the brush. As it was quite overgrown I didn't venture
in as am not comfortable in tramping thru cottonmouth country
especially since the boat canal was less than 100' away.

Looks like something that should be investigated and just thought I'd
pass it along as you might want to include in "Rumor Web" and maybe
some brave soul will investigate it. There is a semblance of a path
back to it but I was reluctant to venture in.

It is on state property and the ranger at another entrance told me
exactly how to find it. Without here directions I might have missed
it.
