None were saved, of course, but what a sharp photo for the 1940s!

Speaking of locations. This one looks like the Conn River somewhere near Brattleboro/Bellows Falls. Can anyone be more precise? And what about the dudes walking the track?

Even the trespassers were well-dressed in the 40s! And note the pile of signal masts/heads on the left edge of the photo.

I suspect this was taken on a fantrip, perhaps during a stop at Brattleboro.

The location is indeed Brattleboro. The shot was taken from the freight station which was located above the mainline just south of the depot. There track coming from the yard had to climb a short steep grade to reach the level of the freight station. Coincidently my first railfan experience with the B&M back in 1974 occurred at that exact same spot when I shot a northbound freight headed by an F-7A/F-7B/GP-7. It would be the only time I would witness a B&M covered wagon working out on the mainline.
