CP's official train and a car playing chicken in New Albany, Indiana. Is this the old Monon trackage?

Yes, this is the old Monon main line which leads up to the Kentucky and Indiana Terminal Railroad bridge, allowing entry into the city of Louisville. CP has trackage rights, through its absorption of the Milwaukee Road. The Milwaukee Road fought long and hard to get entry into Louisville, and the L&N fought just as hard to keep them out. The Milwaukee won out.

The old Monon itself is severed in the middle, which is a shame. When Amtrak briefly reintroduced service from Louisville to Chicago, the routing was from Louisville to Indianapolis on the old Pennsylvania Railroad, then from Indy to Crawfordsville via the Big Four, then on the Monon "racetrack" into Chicago
