With ex-Sumter & Choctaw 2-6-2 103 and a very vintage auto. Engine is now a static display.

Yes, the very first year, in fact. I shot that pic for "postcard-in-the-giftshop" and other "PR" uses. Taken in Sept. 1971, about two months after the VRR opened for public operation. It was a 4x5 transparency, as I recall.

In the gangway are the father and son team of Elliott Ferris (tall one) and Kurt Ferris (short one). Bob Lyons, one of the VRR's first engineers is in the cab window. The car was a 1912 Oakland, I think (the memory gets hazy after 34 years).

103 last operated in 1976, and has been on display at SX since then.

The heavyweight Pullman in the background is Arsenal Tower, now at Steamtown in Scranton.

Nice to see the old 70s images from those postcards on railfan.net, but it would be nice to credit the original photographer. And that's a primary reason I don't post photos on-line.
