Clarification to the 11/23/00 RyPN news brief. The water tower was dismantled and moved the Santa Clara County fairgrounds along with the other roundhouse components. To facilitate height restrictions during the move, the tank portion was actually cut in half. Currently, the deconstruction contractor is reassembling the two halves of the tank at the fairgrounds.
Economic and political realities have led us to our current situation of relocating the roundhouse to the fairgrounds. Granted the fairgrounds site can not provide the "nitty-gritty" texture of the Lenzen location which is immediately adjacent to an active commuter rail line.; however, the reconstructed facility will provide a long term home for the county owned SP 4-6-2 #2479 which is undergoing an extensive restoration by our volunteers.
While some may be critical of our solution and process, nonetheless, the Lenzen structure, turntable and water tower have been saved for future generations.
Ken Middlebrook
California Trolley and Railroad Corporation

ken.middlebrook@nsc.com |
