Several minor inaccuracies in this newspiece, which has an overall positive spin:

I'm wondering if the asbestos problem could be temporarily solved for movement out of the yard by simply spraying the whole engine with some kind of containment substance. C&S narrow gauge 2-6-0 9 at Strasburg, Colorado has been sprayed with something white, and I wonder if this was because of the still-in-place lagging? Also, I hope they don't try to roll them on their own wheels without first polishing and greasing the journals. If they have not been moved since coming to the yard, chances are the bearings may still be ok unless they try to roll them without proper preparation.

Bob, " C&S narrow gauge 2-6-0 9 at Strasburg, Colorado has been sprayed with something white," After asbestos removal it was sprayed with the white latex like substance to contain any stray particles until a through cleaning could be done is the way I understand it...............Wooly

Bob, As far as the asbestos is comcerned on these engines, a large percentage of it is on the ground and running gears, as the bottoms are pretty much gone on their jackets. 1118 had to be moved a few years back because of a broken water main under it, it slid then. However, I think that the movement on their own wheels is a moot point, there is no longer any active trackage into the yard, and I doubt NS would put in a switch.

I have two recent photos posted to Railpictures showing N&W #1118 and Chesapeake Western VO-660 #663, however I shot every one of the engines and the N&W auxiliary water tenders and can post those if someone is interested. There also appeared to be four small, very old coal hoppers on the property.

How long have the diesels been there? I'm guessing they're the 'newest' pieces of equipment on the property. I hope that all this equipment can be saved.

The March issue of Railfan and Railroad just arrived in my mail box today and Jeff Terry has done another of his well written and researched pieces on the equipment in the scrap yard. He even included the Diesels.

I am glad that I have ridden behind the N&W engine also a 4-8-0 at Strasburg.Don't hold your breath on how long it will be before any of those scrap yard engines look like that! More than 50 years of sitting in the weather! I bet you can see through any of the metal parts. And forget the wood!
