I am trying to find out if there are any preserved USRA (or exact USRA pattern) steel twin hoppers (built date 1918-1925 preserved anywhere. I am trying to build a case for preservation of a couple (or at least one) of these cars that still exist but are marked for disposition. Anybody interested in preservation of such a car can contact me off list for details of what is available.
I appreciate all your help.
Michael Seitz

mikefrommontana@juno.com |

The cars in question are former NP sandcars, rebuilt by NP shops in the mid 50's from their 50 car series of USRA cars built in 1921. There were five, but two have been scrapped. Two more are available right now and one will be held in reserve for an indefinite amount of time. Acquisition of these cars would be very reasonable, but they are FOB Missoula MT (MRL/BNSF). If anybody is interested in acquisition, let me know, I have one possible taker for one, but nothing is firm as yet.
I appreciate your comments and assistance. Still, only one car preserved??? Egads.
mikefrommontana@juno.com |

I have seen photos of such cars on NYCTA work trains, in service in (at least) the past 2 years that did not appear to have been modified with ballast doors. They might have more? Does anybody know?
Tom
|
