I'll be headed back to Skagway this June for my second trip to the WP&Y. I thought I read recently about the WP&Y acquiring a new steam locomotive this year. Does anyone know when it's scheduled to arrive in Skagway? I would love to get an opportunity to see the new locomotive. Although I'll be arriving on a Sunday, the ship doesn't dock until 9 so I'll miss seeing the scheduled steam train leave by an hour. I hope I'll be there when it returns in the afternoon. I saw the #73 sitting in the yards two years ago and what a sweet locomotive she is. No mistaking those Baldwin looks. Really looking forward to my second trip Skagway and the ride up the mountain to White Pass. Greg Schultz |

As of yesterday, i was told 69 would be departing Wisconsin for Skagway in late May. Subject to the usual possiblities, you may be there just in time. dave |

Somebody be on the look out and try to get a picture of it on the barge. I'd love to see that. G |

There have been a number of postings on the White Pass fan Yahoo email group regarding #69. There will be a special inaugural excursion on June 24th. This is sponsored by a private organziation. The trip is a Carcross-Bennett-Carcoss round trip. Nothing is heard about future trips. Ultimately, it is believed that regular service will be established out of Carcross to Bennett using the #69. This is a 20-mile, or so run along the side of Lake Bennett with wonderful scenery. I would believe that the #69 will move by truck to Skagway just as the #40 did. |
