On February 17 Project 113 was presented a check in the amount of $12,500 from Denise Stoner representing the Alcoa Foundation. This funding will be used to rehabilitate the tender of CNJ locomotive 113. Combining the above with funding from Pa. Senator James Rhoades and Heritage Parks funding adminstered by the Schuylkill River State and National Heritage Area will enable a total restoration of the tender. To date the estimated cost of the tender rehabilitation is $60,000. Much work has already been completed on the tender: tender frame has been repaired, new oak deck has been installed, tender tank has been overhauled, tender truck springs have been removed and taken to a spring shop to be refabricated, patterns were made and new tender steps have been cast, new liberty head stencils have been made to reletter the tender. The remaining jobs to be done will be to coat inside of tank, place tank on frame, paint and letter the tender and install truck springs. Photos and more information will be forthcoming. |
