Its been about 3 years since stopping down in Akron. I heard some talk that some of the equipment is gone, or leaving etc. I remember a few cars such as a ex PRR business car, a PRR blunt end obs car , not to mention the round end car indoors etc.

Can someone say what is happening in Akron, and if equipment left, where did it go ??? If stuff stayed what are the plans ??

thanks

The blunt end obs was scrapped a few years ago, The Cuyahoga Valley was offered the business car and the wood combine, which we accepted to save them from the same fate. We sold the combine to the Thomas Edison Museum in Port Huron, Michigan, where it has been restored ( Great Job, TJ!). We have also traded the business car to the NRHS Midwest Chapter here in Cleveland, for a car that was of more use to us. The only equipment that is left outside at Quaker Square is the 0-6-0 and the narrow gauge German 0-4-0T.

As always, thanks to all of you at CVSR--- we couldn't have saved our combine without you guys doing a lot of the leg work and the initial move to your site, not to mention the storage of it at your site.

Oh yeah (watch for plug here); please check out the site below for some of our restoration "before and after" photos of the car; I'll try and get more on as I can. Below is a shot of her back in her days at Quaker Square.

Quick couple questions ?

are there one or two cars inside the building at Quaker Square ??? Is one PRR Skyline View ( round end lightweight car )... if so what is it being used for, what is its condition ??

where did the PRR business car go ??? what name and number was this car ??? what is its interior and exterior condition / who was the builder (altoona or Pullman )

any other cars undergoing restoration in this state of Ohio ??

thanks in advance !

Pullman,

There are three cars inside the building that are all part of the hotel's restaurant. I think the obs is the Skyline View, and the other two cars are both Pennsy heavyweight coffee shop cars. The Skyline View is mostly complete with only one hole cut in the side to allow access , there are tables in the obs section where you can eat, the rooms are set up as a display area.
The two coffee shop cars have been totally destroyed with large sections of both cars cut away. All three cars are sitting on the ground with the concrete floor of the building poured around the cars, up to the cars floor height.

The PRR business car is in the Midwest Chapters restoration yard in Cleveland, I do not know if they have started restoring the car. The car is a 1913 Pullman built car Plan 3606, Lot 3975, it was built as PRR #37 a Z74 class businees car. The last number the car carried on the PRR was 7506. The car is complete but does not have any furniture left in it. Like all the cars that were outside at Quaker Square , this car suffers from neglect and vandalism. The car needs side sheet work and some of the window posts repaired due to rust damage, but the car could be a show piece once restored.

Isn't this a sister car to the one The Williamsport which is now "available" at ORM in Worthington? Also, I think there is another sister that was part of a Timken display for a while?
