Finally got a chance to spend some considerable time at the Strasburg Railroad yesterday. Arrived just before 31 was brought out of the enginehouse and left after the engine was put away. Got some great photos taken along the line. The best moment was waiting at a crossing soon after the 1PM train departed. Could hear nothing but clip clops of passing buggies, a throaty locomotive bark, and a steam whistle. VERY cool. Thanks to everyone at Strasburg for all of their hard work.

Yes, it was very cool. We took the 2:00 run, the new hopper and tank car were so nice, they rivalled 31. We recommend the pork BarBque I'd swear that was a PRR 3 chime on the 31 was a Pennsy Whistle. Can the SRR guys comment? In something of an irony, stopped at the old mill w/ antique shop where 741 meets 896, bought some early 60's trains magazines, primarily because one had picture of T-1 2124 on cover and story about Rambles. Inside these three magazines 2 from and 1 from 62 (feb) more survivors: ICRR 790 (now at Steamtown) after purchase by private owner for apparently stillborn tourist operation, and No 113 at work for mine company were inside |

Well Golly, I guess this make three of us RYPNers at Strasburg Sunday. I took the shop tour and the 2 pm train, and inbetween managed to spend about $200 in the book store. I don't know about the whistle, but the 31 certainly sounded nicer than the GP-16 I had to spent ten hours riding around on today after our regular conductor called off because of the snow storm . . . I believe and I hope someone from Strasburg can help me with this but the current whistle on 31 looks to me like a 5" or 6" Buckeye 3-chime. |
