We would like to address several questions that have arisen concerning the condition of CNJ 113. This locomotive was last fired in January of 1960. In June of 1963 Earl Gill, owner of the Morris County Central Railroad purchased several parts from locomotive 113. Our records show that these parts were used on Mr. Gill's 2-8-0 number 385. From that time until 1980 when the locomotive was donated to the Wilmington and Western Railroad it sat unused and abandoned. In March of 1981 it was moved to the Wilmington and Western. In February of 1991 it was returned to the Anthracite Region and was stored in Minersville, PA. Parts that have been obtanied from other sources include: one 11" Westinghouse air compressor, bell, markers, Alco Type G power reverse gear, Pyle National MO6 turbo generator, cylinder cocks, Consolidated safety valves, number six brake system complete, tri-cock valves, 10.5 Sellers injector, two new air tanks, oil delivery system, many valves and pipes, headlight and tender light, number plate, boiler check valves, throttle arm and quadrant, reverse lever and quadrant. Many new parts have been cast new, these include two types of grates, builders and number plates, stack and base, smokebox door dogs, boiler steps, side bearer ashpan bracket, cab brackets, jacket spacers. New parts obtained include flexible staybolts, sleeves and caps, tubes and flues, boiler studs, and assorted new metal. In closing many parts were stripped from the locomotive but have been replaced with historically compatable substitutes. We are always looking for in service pictures of the 113 either on the CNJ or at the breaker. We are still looking for another 10.5 Sellers injector and a step top mediun length CNJ three chime whistle with horizontal valve.
