Fiftieth anniversary event celebrating the end of steam on the Sierra RR: From Darrol Stanley. Colleagues of the R&LHS and Sierra Railroad: We have finally finalized the plans for the weekend of April 16th and 17th 2005 in order to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Farewell to Steam excursion. While we have been unable to secure the #40 or #42 in Jamestown nor approval for the run to Chinese, we have the following set up: Saturday Morning, April 16th Join us on the Wild West train ride on the Sierra Railroad out of Oakdale. The trip starts at 11 AM and includes lunch. Tickets are $70.03 per person. Please phone the Sierra directly at 209.848.2100. Please indicate that you are part of the Farewell to Steam group so we can all sit together. Saturday Evening, April 16th Join us at the Carriage Room at 7 PM at Railtown 1897 for a slide/film presentation. We hope to have a number of participants. If you have any media, please let us know! Please let us know if you are coming so we can make proper arrangements. If you are going to ride on Sunday, tell them when you order tickets. If you are not going to ride, let me know by email. If you are going to present, please email me. Sunday, April 17th Join us by Noon for extended activities at Railtown 1897. We will have an extended roundhouse tour (with photo shots) at 12:15 hosted by Joe Bispo. We will then have reserved space on a car for both the 2 PM and 3 PM trains. We anticipate a lively discussion about the Sierra and the many excursions during the 2 PM train. We anticipate a photo stop on the 3 PM. Reservations can be made at 209.984.3953. Tickets are $14.00 per person. Please identify yourself as part of the Farewell to Steam party. We hope to add more things both dates as we move forward. Hope to see you at the event! Please pass this information on to others.
