I have been watching eBay for over 6 years with a specific search for velocipedes everytime I log on. Over that time I have seen about a half dozen come and go (ranging in condition from parts to complete units) and the most that I have seen one sell for was less than half the starting price on this one...then again, they say "one's born every minute".

This two-man velocipede was recently donated to the WW&F Ry museum by a member. The woodworking in the spokes is incredible. Meanwhile, a replica narrow gauge version is under construction in the shop.

Is the WW&F gona us the gears and such from that one for their narrow gauge one? I remember reading that they were missing these parts.

Hello Eric,

Actually I believe there are two replica velocipedes in the works, and since one is being created by the "unofficial" museum blacksmith, I would doubt very much any parts will be borrowed from the recently donated example.

Someone will (hopefully) correct me if I am wrong... :-)

I've had an interest in velocipeds for a while but could never find a source of information on them.

I love the woodwork on this velocipede. Are the gears special or could they be adapted from standard pieces? Also, please tell me that plans are available for this Velocipede. I think that both me and my dad would love to build one.

With some 10 hours left in the auction the lone bidder is a comic book collector. There's irony here...somewhere.

The lone (and successful) bidder is not a comic book collector. He has acquired and donated to the Smithsonian over 500 magazines from the summer of 1942 with American Flags on their covers - a handful of which were comic books. Those who are interested in a little known chapter of WWII history might type in " July 1942 United We Stand" in their search engine to get to the Smithsonian web site on the subject.

The new owner is also the owner of a short line railroad holding company that has nine short lines in the southeast and who plans to display the velocipede at their new headquarters which is now under construction.
