I have a copy of an old TRAINS from the 1960's that stated that BLH was still very much in the parts business at the time of publication. When did the organization finally dissolve? |

I found a reference in an asbestos liability case that suggested that BLH was dissolved as a corporate entity in 1976. No further details, though I can scare up the URL for the court judgement if you want to read it. |

Superheater, I want to say sometime in the 1970s or 1980s. I don't have my copy of "The Diesel Builders" handy, but it covers the end of BLH long after the last locomotive left Eddystone. BLH managed to sell a license to copy BLH prime mover designs to a company in Europe (Switzerland). I think at the end, BLH was located in Malvern, Pa. The statute of Baldwin stood out in front of the building they used as office space. |

The locomotive parts business faded away in the 1970's-80's. During that time the company was variously under the control of Armour, Clark (forklifts,etc.), and even Greyhound. According to Henry Rentschler, last president of Baldwin-Hamilton, the end of a BH as a corporate entity was in 1991. Mr. Rentschler occasionally answers questions about Baldwin and Lima on the Railroad.net forums. Several companies still produce the various Baldwin / Lima- Hamilton product lines, but probably nothing railroad-related. The statute of Matthias Baldwin is now at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. Mike |

McHugh Bros., then operating the New Hope & Ivyland RR, bought most of the Loco instruction books about 1975. We were still buying new parts from Baldwin (a division of Ecolair?), Malvern, Pa., in the 1980s. |
