The NYCHRR is said to be made up of several of the former tiny switching railroads on the NY waterfront. Previous to the NYCHRR, whose engine terminal was this?

This was originally the Bush Terminal property, built in 1915-1920 as a large warehousing and docks facility. It was orginally electric-powered, and was dieselized in the early 30s with what are considered the first "road-switcher" style diesels, GE/I-R units with a short hood, cab and long hoood configuration. They lasted until 1970, when NY Dock Railway took over. The 1931 GE/I-Rs were scrapped, and the NYD lasted until 1982-3. NY Cross Harbor is the sucessor to all of the many NY City waterfront operations, and the Bush Terminal railroad is the only one left on the NY side of the harbor.

Interesting side note: The current General Manager of NY Cross Harbor is Howard Samelson, who along with partner and wife Suzanne, operated the Broadway Ltd RR Antique Co in NY for many years, and the couple also operated the concession car "E.M. Frimbo" on the B&O 150th anniversary trains in 1977-78, and the Chessie Safety Express in 1980-81. Remember those days, Ron Goldfeder??
