Thanks.

No, not yet. Water temps are still about 39 degrees up north here and although my friends and I are more than equipped to dive year round, it is just easier, safer and more fun if it is warmer. We will get after it by early June at the latest. I will post a full report no matter what the outcome.

We have not actually gotten permission yet. I forgot to mention that. I hope to have that taken care of sometime soon.

Ryan,

Has any further evidence--videos, photographs, other witnesses, etc.--been produced to enhance the veracity of the original claimant that there's something down there?

We had a lovely round-table discussion here the last time this topic was raised, and given the tone of the last round here, I personally would not even bother with even approaching the state park officials in question without more to go on than one person's hearsay.

Len sent me his video of the quarry which was done well, but not from the standpoint of what might be in the water. It clearly shows a railbed leading down toward the quarry, but it does not show where the bed or any rails went directly into the water. Also the perspective from which the video was shot only shows a very small part of the quarry. I still can't tell what the chances are of there being something there. Respectfully, I understand your viewpoint, but I still feel the only way to settle this officially is for those of us with the capability to actually just go look for ourselves. I'm not sure why this is so hard for people to understand. I'm not looking to stir up any trouble again. This is just how I feel. As an extremely active diver it is always fun to dive someplace new other than our regular quarry dives, whether there is anything there or not and as I stated before, this would not be my only motivation for going out there as I have friends in that area. Again, I will post a full report after it is all said and done.

Well, for what's it's worth, we have a number of conflicting reports about the existence of the locomotive here.

http://www.railroad.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8048

The person can't seem to get the number straight, but that's another story, and also claimed to actually see the locomotive. Of course, if he actually saw the locomotive at a time of low water, then he forgot to mention it in his original letter to the state park system.

Either way, I'm with Mr. Mitchell, and I'll believe it when I see it.

Oh brother!..... Once again.... I don't care if they are there or not, but I'm going to go look anyway. If they are I will take all kinds of photos and video which I will post for all to see to settle this once and for all. If they are not, we will just have some fun diving in a new spot. Jeez, chill out on this stuff guys! Just let it get a bit warmer and I will tell you what is actually there. Sorry, I have to go patch up my forehead from beating it against this brick wall.....

I'm not questioning your honesty, nor am I questioning your assertion that you will not show the evidence if the locomotive isn't there. At the very worst, you get more diving expierence in a new and interesting location. At best, you find the locomotive, at which I'll eat some crow pie.

Either way, you gain something from it. Keep us posted once June rolls around.

Hi, The last of my relatives in Harrisburg, PA died in 2002. However, I vaguely recall several tales about the quarry which filled with water from two or three members of the family (all who worked for the PRR/PC/CR/Amtrak). I am looking forward to hearing about what you might find down in the quarry.
I hope there is some RR artifacts, but any items would be interestiing.
Thanks.

If this quarry is anything like Willow Springs, Dutch Springs, Bainbridge, Delta, etc., it'll warm up by Sept., and still be 39 degrees on the bottom!

Stories of this kind are always surfaceing (pun intended), and I recognize the right to righteous skepticism. What a shame if a B8 was down there and overlooked. Really, the only way to solve it is to put up or shut up. Once the matter is resolved, it never need be discussed again. Teqdiver, please bring your camera or video, and plenty of lighting equipment!

Yeah, no joke! All of our Ohio diving here is quarry diving and it is the same way. I used to enjoy diving Dutch when I lived out in NY. It has that cute little PCC car sunk in there which is kind of fun.
