Post subject:  Are there two 40-50 foot refers or boxcars available?
Any leads on older style cars? Unneed at a museum, off in a corner of a scrap yard? Still in service?

Any ideas appreciated.

How about the B&O wagontops Tom Cornille has been trying to find a home for? Also, would GTW ex-Auto cars qualify? There's two sitting at the elevator in Onaway, Michigan. I'm guessing you want West Coast cars though?

I wish I could find a good home for the wagon tops - but - west coast cars would be what we are looking for.

Ex-auto cars - might work for storage - a different need. Do you have additional info on those?

They are owned by the Elevator there, on what remains of a siding off the old Detroit & Mackinac line to Cheboygen (abandoned in eaqrly 1990's).

They are GTW's Automobile Car #592004 and #592012, 50-foot, with dreadnaught end doors on one side, friction-bearing, last packed (according to reporting marks, anyway) at WIKIT (?) on 3-15-68 and 2-22-68. Below is reporting marks shot.

Post subject:  B&O Wagontop Box Cars - Other avenues
I am not involved with the B&O wagontops. Rather, I had offered the owner help in publicising them last year when they were first offered. The owner declined my offer stating that they acquired by another individual.

I think the most cost-effective source for a car would be to approach one of the area class 1 or regional railroads with a request for a donation. The available cars would probably be from your region. Likewise, they may have cars modified for MofW service which would furhter facilitate conversion to a bathroom/facility car.

I would suggest asking your question on the following yahoogroups as they have a larger readership than RYPN:

TJ - that would be repacked WITH Wikit which were a brand of journal pads - not at WIKIT. Others you might see were Premier, Atlas, Hennessey, Journapak, etc.

I do not think Wikit is still around, nor is Hennessey, Premier or Atlas. I think there is only one remaining manufacturer of journal pads, and I believe we source them from Unity Railway Supply. (as of 1990 Journapak was still in business but that is little consolation to us now. How did that trivia come up? Sunday I was looking at our supply of new 'old' pads and they usually have a metal tag on them - in this case JP 1990.)

I expect the future for buying journal pads is in doubt so anyone with a lot of friction bearing cars should stock up or face buying bundles of wool yarn, hand tying skeins or pigs, and packing them the old fashioned way.
