Non-confirmed report has Juniata Terminal as the successful bidder on both of the ex-Conrail E-8
units. Ex-PRR 5711 and ERIE 833.

I can't think of a better place for them.

I can figure out what will happen to the Conrail 4021, it will no doubt be reborn as the PRR 5711, I cant wait to see it coupled to the 5809. Here's an interesting question, what will those hard core PRR men at Juniata Terminal do with the Erie 833? Will it soon sport PRR induction antennas and nose mounted lifting lugs? God I hope so!!!!! I hope the rumors are true! Good work Bennett Levin and crew if you pull it off, it will be one of the most significant diesel restoration projects I can think of and the way you guys work I won't die of old age waiting to see it.

Our museum (and I am sure other museums) asked CSX to donate either of the E8's to us. We (as with most other museums) don't have the "bucks" to bid against those that do. Nothing against Juniata Terminal here it's just that our museum is located in a town that both Pennsy and Erie E8's rolled through (our museum is actually on the old Erie R-O-W) and would have LOVED having either locomotive. I will say this; we would have restored either locomotive to its original Pennsy or Erie paint scheme. I HOPE TO HEAVEN that Juniata Terminal does the same with Erie 833. She is, after all, the ONLY Erie passenger diesel left. Yes...she would have looked nice next to our Erie S-1 #310 but since CSX went for the money let's at least hope that 833 becomes Erie again and does NOT become a "Pennsy" engine!

What would happen if the 833 reverted to Conrail Blue? Just a thought!

It would make me feel ill. That's what would happen.

Seriously, though, I can't help but feel that the best choice for Juniata Terminal would be to restore both units to their original owners. I have to believe there would be a great deal of interest in both units as separate historical artifacts and, as a die-hard supporter of prototype restoration, I think that would be an historically commendable choice.

Glad to hear that Juniata got the other E-units. With the "loss" of the two PRR units on the BM&R this is good news.

Also, I'm going to add my two bits by saying that the Erie unit should be restored in EL colors as it is the only E from either the Erie or DL&W left - only fair. Also as we all know there are two Erie replicas and two DL&W replicas around but no EL cabs. Isn't there also former EL business car #2 in Philadelphia as well that it would match quite nicely?

I've hoped that the 833 would fall into good hands for many years, looks like this has happened.

PS - WE would love to have that unit as well!
