Saw this on the VRS-Rutland list. Some might be interested. Lamoille Valley RR scrapping and New York & Ogdensburg RR (former Rutland and Norwood & St. Lawrence).



Travelled along VT 15 East yesterday and saw rails removed just east
of Cambridge Junction, just west of Willows Crossong flats on the
LVRC. No equipment around, but large piles of rails behind the
Vermont AOT Garage in Jeffersonville, and looks like brush cut east
to Morrisville. Going to swing by enginehouse in Morrisville today
and see whats around (although it sounds like not much)


Also: Swung up to Norwood & Norfolk, NY Saturday.
Saw VTR plow in the woods at Norwood alongside the Montreal
secondary, and watched the CN Northbound with 3 SDs and 104, mostly
MT centerbeams. Lots of cars on the long passing sidings at Norwood,
but dont think they are for NYOG. I then swung up to the enginehouse
in Norfolk. Two boxcars were spotted at the paper factory (didnt
think they used rail anymore!?!?) The enginehosue was pretty vacant,
blue SL&RR plow sitting outside, but lots of trash around and debris
blocking tracks to the enginehouse. Two MSDR boxcars on another
spur. Last time I was here there were stored cars on the reminder of
the old line to Waddington, but these cars were gone. Also privately
owned CSX B23-7 that was around was gone. IS NYOG still using the
enginehouse? The tracks up from Norwood looked alot better than in
previouis visits, probably because of the paper traffic. Did see a
healthy amount of covered hoppers at the Transflo in Ogdensburg on
tuesday, but only from a distance. The NYOG also completed (WITH A
GRANT FROM NYDOT) a major crossing upgrade, installing
flashers/gates at 9 crossings between Norwood and Ogdensburg that
previosuly had only crossbucks.

I believe there is still a steam era enginehouse and water standpipe at Norfolk, NY and Steamtown has their last 2-6-0.
