Here is the text from an article in the Reno newspaper.

The efforts of those who have worked for over a decade to see to the
reconstruction of the V&T Railway have finally paid off as phase 1 of the project is
about to begin with a groundbreaking ceremony on April 6 at 2 p.m. at the Gold
Hill Depot. Members of the public are invited to attend this major event.



The multi-phase project will ultimately lay 18 miles of track between the
Comstock and Carson City and will be supported by federal dollars, as well as tax
contributions from the Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau, and
several northern Nevada counties.



The Nevada Department of Transportation recently awarded a $3.8 million bid
contract to Granite Construction Company for the reconstruction of 1.3 miles of
railway across Overman Pit in Gold Hill, and the anticipated completion time
for phase 1 is late September.



The 1.3-mile stretch “is expected to be the major hurdle,â€

I can respect the goals and applaud a rebuild, but the idea of Virginia City becoming another Reno or Vegas disturbs me a bit. It is quiet and lonely there, and personally I quite like it how it is.
