The Sykes Co. (Winthrop Harbor, Illinois) was on the doodlebug scene for a short period (1923-1928). They only sold 30 power cars and 14 trailer cars. They contracted with St. Louis Car Co. to build these units. Sykes employed a Sterling marine gas engine (225 and 245 hp). Production of Sykes cars ended in 1928 with a motor-and-two-trailer set built for the Oklahoma City, Ada & Atoka Railway. The car we have for sale is the motor car from this set. http://www.edwardsrailcar.com/photos/Sale/Sykes3.jpg |
