Post subject:  CRI&P Dodge City Branch

From one of the Rock Island lists, news that this branch is up for abandonment. After the demise of the Rock Island, this was the Dodge City, Ford & Bucklin tourist RR for several years. The branch left the Golden State mainline at Bucklin, Kansas and terminated at Dodge City.

"I recieved a notice that the old Rock Island branch from Bucklin,
Ks. to just east of the Wilroads elevator is up for abandonment by the
Boot Hill and Western Railroad ( Wright Co-oP Assc. ) No traffic has
moved over it for two years now. The DCF&B hauled grain out of Wilroads
to Bucklin a number of times but the SP at that time was not all that
friendly of a connection and the haul back into Dodge City was easier
and shorter anyway. This is laid with 80 lb rail and the elevator
siding at Ford, Ks is still in. The switches at Wilroads and Ford both
have spring frogs! East of Ford is a really nice curved trestle that we
will no longer see trains on. It is over!"
