Greetings, Well, HRRHS@AOL.com, Sutterd@hotmail.com, and masticke@indiana.edu and I (ages 19-23) have been conversing for about a week now and all agree that we, the New Generation ought to do something about keeping the "younguns" in line. Its nothing too formal or time-consuming at present, but we'll see what happens. We are located in Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska and Georgia in case anyone else is heading through or near those states. Thus far, we will keep each other up to date on what our museums/rail communities are up to and whenever possible, visit and check out what the others are doing, (at the very least, brag about our new rolling stock). The Spencer convention has come up and that might be an ideal chance for us to talk face to face. I tried to reach a couple other individuals who posted on the NG thread but couldn't get through. I encourage anyone interested to contact us and we'll see what happens. Angelina Garske Historic Railroadshops, Savannah angel.ina@mailexcite.com |

Ok, I will commit to budgeting funds to send Angelina to Spencer for the convention if she wants to go, and would encourage other organizations to fund "scholarships" for their younger members also. Maybe a session should be included on attracting and making our history relevant to generations born after railroads were ubiquitous. Dave irondave@bellsouth.net |

A number of years ago Orange Empire provided a stipend for some young members to help them attend the ARM meeting. We did it a couple or three years and sent one person a year. One of the people we sent has since become a paid professional in railway preservation. How we did it: A number of us gave donations to the museum. Then the museum made the stipend payment that helped pay for the airline costs. All of this authorized by our govering board. One of us arranged to share a double room with the receipent and thus reduce the costs at the hotel for our stipend person. Brian Norden Orange Empire Railway Museum bnorden@gateway.net |
