Post subject:  Status of the Baldwin Sharks?
Just curious to know more info on these two units. I've found plenty of references that they're stored in a building on the Escanaba & Lake Superior in Upper Michigan, but not much else. Are they owned privately or by the E&LS? Are there any plans (short or long term) for the locos, or does it look like they'll sit in storage for a while yet? Are there any current, or at least recent, photos of the units (last 10 years or so)? It would be interesting to see what condition they're in.

The best thing to say is:

They're safe and sound in locked storage, and reportedly there's a plan in place for their long-term preservation. Aside from that, don't "rock the boat". Don't pester the railroad; don't visit; don't go trolling for them; etc.

They're squirreled away because a couple "bad apple" railfans made off with several consecutive sets of replica builder's plates off them and other E&LS Baldwins back in the late 1970s. It's almost time for a new generation of low-lifes to take the baton and make trouble for the locos' owner(s)--who are indeed rail enthusiasts, despite their well-deserved antagonism towards "railfans".
