Post subject: Rounhouse Database Being Created
PostPosted: Wed Jan 10, 2001 4:17 pm

Greetings,

I am writing this post to inform everybody that my organization is starting work on a roundhouse database for North America. The only way it will be successful is through folks like you that know where these roundhouses are and their status. Therefore, I request that you send me information about any surviving roundhouses that you know of. Pictures are welcomed. The information will be posted on www.rypn.org/HRRHS. It is our goal to create an awareness regarding the existing roundhouses out there. If your museum has a roundhouse, send us the appropriate information along with a link to your website.

Thanks,
Gerald Kopiasz, President

Gerald, here is some info concerning former Fort Worth & Denver roundhouses: Two structures remain, in Amarillo, and Texline, Texas.

The Texas Panhandle Railroad Historical Society, P.O. Box 50422 Amarillo, TX 79159-0422 has info, historic & current photos of the ex-Fort Worth & Denver roundhouse in Amarillo, Texas. See their website at http://www.tprhs.org, or access the roundhouse page directly at http://www.tprhs.org/museum/fwdrndhs.htm.
TPRHA E-mail is info@tprhs.org.

As concerns Texline, a portion of the structure remains, comprising three stalls. This includes one stall that was lengthened to accommodate late-generation large motive power (the C&S 2-10-2's, et al). I went through Texline last November to note that the huge wooden stall doors are still in place, although deteriorating. The building is owned by a scrap dealer, who uses it for some storage. I have a couple of photos that, once scanned, I'll e-mail to you for your database.
