From the Historic Sierra Railway list: Today in Sierra History Date: Tuesday, April 19, 2005 Time: All Day 1962: West Side's Tuolumne mill is shut down by a year long strike Much of the mill later burned and never returned to operation. A subsequent shay-powered tourist RR operation did not last. Today, only a few buildings remain on the property and it is hard to imagine what the site looked like in operation. The locomotives have been scattered, some as far as Iowa, leaving only an incomplete Heisler in the park at Tuolumne, California. There is apparently still an effort to get trains running again, however, as found on this website: http://www.wsrestoration.com/ |
