Picked up a copy of "Wired for Success" a short book on the BA&P.
The book contains two interesting pictures of their home-built linecar, #10

Does anyone know where to go, whom I might contact for more information on this car ? I'm especially interested in obtaining a scale plan if possible.

Thanks in advance

Post subject:  Re: BA&P EDWARDS CAR

Dear FoxValley:

I am plesed to inform you that the BA&P M-10 was not "home built" but rather, was manufactured by my firm, the Edwards RailWay Motor Car Co. This was the ONLY car of its type built by our firm. The car was built and sold to BA&P in 1925 to be used as a self-propelled Line Car. This car was first developed by Edwards in 1922 as a combination baggage car and locomotive. In a 1924 sales bulletin it was refered to as "The Edwards Special"

The following is sales information: "A New Edwards Model Gasoline Car with Twin Engine Developing from 140 to 150 Horse Power, Especially Adapted for Heavy Duty Work. Capacity 100 Passengers and 10,000 pounds of baggage. This car will pull load of from fifty to three hundred tons, according to conditions and speed desired. It is designed to pull one standard 25-ton, wooden passenger coach, with capacity load, at speed forty miles per hour, or will pull two specially-constructed, Edwards Trailers of fifty passengers capacity each, at same speed. Can be used efficiently and economically for switching purposes."

Unfortunately the only car built was for the BA&P. I have several photos and a drawng of the car I can forward.

Post subject:  BA&P update?

What is going on with the BA&P? Last I heard, they were to tear up the trackage the Edwards car ran its excursion service on. Is the roundhouse still there? Still in use by the Rarus Railway?

Post subject:  Re: BA&P EDWARDS CAR

Steve,
Thanks for the information. I'm constantly amazed at what a useful tool the internet is for the sharing of information. A request for any information about a relatively obscure piece of railroad equipment, some 80 years after the car was built, something I hadn't even known existed before noon yesterday,,, and I have a relative treasure trove of info to work from less than 12 hours later.... Better to be lucky than good sometimes !

The book refers to the car as being built in the company shops in 1925. Looking at the photos, it's somewhat more obvious (now that I know what I'm looking for) of it's railcar builder origins.

I'd love to have a chance to see anymore info/pics/etc you care to share, you can send them to me offline at FoxValley@aol.com at your convenience. Many thanks !!

P.S. - I'm a real fan of the Edwards work going on, I really enjoy your other postings and seeing what's going on with your company these days. I'm surprised that more museum and shortline railroads don't look into such equipment, it seems almost tailor-made for such operations.

Thanks again

Is that the little section that extended north/northeast from Anaconda?
