Of Colorado & Southern excursion engine 638, shown here at Colorado Springs on its trip to Trinidad, Colorado, December 16, 1962. The 2-8-0 had been retained at Denver after coming down from the C&S' isolated Climax Branch in 1958, ostensibly as a backup for the 641, which had been retired at Leadville just a couple months earlier in 1962. With that possibility eliminated, the 638 was donated to Trinidad and worked this last excursion on the way down.
