Post subject:  Last Trip

Of Colorado & Southern excursion engine 638, shown here at Colorado Springs on its trip to Trinidad, Colorado, December 16, 1962. The 2-8-0 had been retained at Denver after coming down from the C&S' isolated Climax Branch in 1958, ostensibly as a backup for the 641, which had been retired at Leadville just a couple months earlier in 1962. With that possibility eliminated, the 638 was donated to Trinidad and worked this last excursion on the way down. Diesels hauled the train back to Denver.
