| Post subject: | Urgent Help needed with Fairmont differential axle |
I'm not a member of NARCOA and don't have access to every motorcar (speeder) maintenance manual ever published.... That said... What I do have is a project that involves a Fairmont 1 7/16ths differential axle that came off of an old military target range trailer and "needs" servicing (cleaning, check of seals, etc.), but, I need to know how to "crack" it open. There appears to be a point in the sleeve neighboring the grease zerk for some form of key or pin. Does anyone have experience with such an axle? Does this access point require a specialized tool or key to release the axle parts from the sleeve? Can some one walk me through this, either on the board here or by private message (PM). Thanks in advance. sc 'doc' lewis |

Doc, A fairmont differential axle has a sleeve that is held in place by a bolt and nut but the zerk fitting has to be removed also before the sleeve will slide on the axle. Glynn |
