Hello all,

I am the convention coordinator for the 2002 ARM convention, which will be co-hosted by the SRHS (Age of Steam) and McKinney Avenue Transit Authority in Dallas, Texas October 21-27, 2002.

We are trying to develop the program of seminars, and I saw some previous discussion about having a seminar discussing the aspects of museums (preservation) versus tourists (operations).

(JimWrinn: I am looking forward to seeing what seminars will be held at the coming ARM/TRAIN conference at Spencer Shops)

I would like to hear from everyone about what kind of things you would want to do/see/hear if you make the trip to Dallas next year? We will evaluate our proposed seminars after we get the list of seminars from this years' convention so we won't repeat any, but are there any special requests?

I hope to see all of you make the trip to the ARM/TRAIN convention this year at Spencer. I'll be there.

Thanks

Andy Nold

Hey Andy;

My sympathies on your assignment.

1. A welcoming reception by the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

2. Operation of the Big Boy which will no doubt have been fully restored for film work by then.

3. A day trip behind steam on the FW&W.

4. Very Good Barbecue.

5. Maybe a side trip to the Blacklands RR if 108 is up and running? The modern guys might like their ALCOs too.

6. Pre conference day trip and ride on Texas State RR. Maybe a steam tripleheader?

7. Pearl Brewery tour by electric steeplecab with refreshments provided.

Just some idead off the top of my head. Let's see what gets covered this year at the joint conference.

Dave-

Sounds great, as long as we don't break "Rule G" in the process!

Will you be happy to know that I am currently working on items No. 3, 4 and 6 (Not sure about triple header, but maybe a double)? I can look into 1,2 and 5 if I knew where the Blacklands RR is?

I also have a one-page double-spaced list of proposed seminars, but I won't post them until after 2001 seminars are locked in.
