Concerning the eviction of the B&ML from the Belfast waterfront: http://waldo.villagesoup.com/Government ... ryID=54399 I'm curious if any of these structures were ever placed or nominated for the state and national registers? It would seem that, if they had been, the city (being a public entity) would have a harder time evicting the railroad and demolishing the buildings. This is a real shame. The railroad will probably remain in some form, operating from its non-historic terminal at Unity, but the real history of the B&ML will be lost to greedy developers. Some photos of the site, from an August 20, 1933 visit to the B&ML: http://abpr.railfan.net/abprphoto.cgi?n ... .17.18.jpg http://abpr.railfan.net/abprphoto.cgi?n ... b+ml16.jpg http://abpr.railfan.net/abprphoto.cgi?n ... b+ml18.jpg http://abpr.railfan.net/abprphoto.cgi?n ... +ml18a.jpg |

Apparently the Montreal, Maine, and Atlantic has decided to sell the old Northern Maine Junction roundhouse to a local trucking firm as a garage. There is a lovely old turntable sitting in front of it. same as there is in front of the Belfast engine house. Might someone be interested? |
