When still in New Brunswick, in 1949. Now at South Simcoe Ry. in Ontario, operable last I knew, with a wooden cab applied for the CBC TV series about building the CPR.

And shortly after being replaced by a 44-ton diesel, on an excursion at Orangeville, Ontario, 6/1/60.

Former CP 136, is still in operation on the South Simcoe Railway. The South Simcoe's operating season begins on May 22. Recently, the SSR has purchased and restored a 70-ton switcher,(GE-6/48) which was formally in industrial service, in a steel plant east of Toronto. The locomotive is numbered 703, which is the same number the unit carried, while in service for both Southern and Norfolk Southern.

136 is not in service, and has not been for several years now. She is sitting in the dead line, looking a little forlorn. I believe plans were in place to reboiler her, but when steel prices went higher plans were put on hold. She is liked however for her economy, as she uses far less coal than her larger sister D-10-h 4-6-0 1057, so with any luck she'll be back in service soon. A little bit of useless trivia for you, when 136 went west for the filming of the national dream she had her original whistle broken off by an "insufficient clearance" issue (Calgary shops if memory serves me correctly). The enterprising CPR staffers offered to remedy the situation by removing the whistle from a steam auxiallary crane out back. She apparently never quite sounded as good since the incident.
