FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Portola Railroad Museum Railfan Photographer's Day Come join us on Saturday, May 21, 2005 for this special day devoted to recreating period railroading from the 1950's and 60's. Railfan Day opens at 10:00 AM and runs until 10:00 PM or when the final photo session ends. The PRM will be operating vintage trains of authentic equipment for viewing and photography. There will also be static displays, railroadiana vendors, slide shows and a special night photo shoot hosted by Winterail's Vic Neves. Vic Neves will also be offering a class in NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY before the photo shoot. Come learn from one of the best known railroad night photographers working today. As a special part of this event, the museum is pleased to announce that we will be offering tours of our OPERATING Southern Pacific Rotary Snowplow. Also, at various times during the day, the plow blade will be spun up for photo opportunities. Don't miss this unique chance to get inside an operational rotary snowplow. Tickets are $20 per person for all day admission. Our $30 combo ticket includes BBQ lunch and dinner at the museum. Meals will also be available separately: $5 lunch and $8 for dinner. The Portola Railroad Museum, operated by the non-profit Feather River Rail Society, is one of the largest railroad museums in the United States. With over 120 pieces of rolling stock covering nearly the entire 20th Century, the museum features one of the most comprehensive collections focusing on a single railroad company. The museum is located in Plumas County, in the city of Portola and is open to the public from early March until the end of October. From Memorial Day until Labor Day, caboose train rides are offered on weekends. Also, the PRM is home to the famous Run-A-Locomotive program, available by appointment, which allows our guests the experience of running a real, full-size railroad locomotive. Looks like Portola will have some new things on display for the Photographer's Day. Train with FRRS crew and motive power is currently in the Bay Area doing physical exchange of equipment traded to the Western Railway Museum in an agreement last year. Western Pacific F7A 917-D and Sacramento Northern GP7 712 are among the items moving to a new home in Portola. WRM is receiving SN 44 tonner 146 and SN caboose 1632 among other items. |
