I'm just passing this along....... The Casey Jones Museum at Vaughan was broken into last night Feb. 6th?). Apparently, whoever broke in knew exactly what they wanted. There were tons of stuff they could have carried off, instead, they cleaned us out of the old ICRR kerosene signal lanterns. They took two with clear lenses and one with a red lense, each was circa the early 1900's. I know one in particular was stamped 1908. The only kerosene lantern they did not take was one without the ICRR lense. Keep your eyes open and alert every rail fan you know. If a sudden glut of lanterns show up on the market, they may be ours. They probably will have scraped them off, but, each lantern has an inventory number from the Museum Archives. The numbers of the missing lanterns are 84.75, 84.11, 79.24. Each lantern has a white spot of paint on the bottom with the numbers written on the paint in black. There were two kerosene lamps that were taken as well. I couldn't find a reference number for them in the archives so, apparently, they weren't of much value. If you find anything out, please let me know. Kelly Mitchell (662)653-3351 office Railway Preservation News hkading@rypn.org |
