Nice to hear from Mark Smith again.I really miss L&RP. Anyone who loves railroad preservation and history will have some L&RP magazines safely stored (preserved?) away. I have them all and keep them in the magazine protectors that were once advertized in L&RP. I read through them often,Picking on one subject or another. I can almost always find answers to my questions about railroad preservation in the old L&RP issues.What I can't find there,I ask here on RYPN. I guess the reason I miss L&RP the most is because it was art. It had CLASS! The first issues (up to around editor change) had very little advertising and no cover prompts or captions. I like that. I don't need to know what is inside,because I KNOW what is inside,Ya know? Welcome back Mark!I hope you will accompany us here at RYPN,and if your itching to get back into railroad preservation,come on over to the Conway Scenic.We could use help with the coaches! btamper@hotmail.com |

I agree that it's good to hear from Mark again!!! I had the pleasure of meeting him many moons ago at the CT Trolley Museum when were were test running the MFRR Climax #3. He was doing a series on geared locomotives and I guess he drove down from VT to get a first hand account of this one. He showed up, painted a black circle around one eye with soot (I think) and pitched in with the duties of the day from cold start. L&RP was a unique magazine that was more that some photo album resurected for the third time. It had a special way of telling the story with class.
