An idea for those of you with at least 2 steamers or diesels that can move. Last year on opening day, NCTM did a little ceremony marking the annual miracle of having two standard gauge engines under steam. For the ceremony we posed both the BC&G 2-8-0 and the GCRR shay nose to nose a la Promontory Summit. That is such a classic image that has been burned into the public's mind. During the ceremony we posed the crews on the pilots of the engines and did our own "champaign photo"... it was tremendous fun and something both our crews and public loved.

Just a neat idea for those of you anticipating striking off fires and turning over 567s for another year.

>Just another idea:

We (the HVRR) do not have a way to turn our engines for a nose to nose shot. We will someday have this option, but not yet.

An idea has been presented that we run a motive power parade. This would mean that all of the people line the station platform, then you have a parade of motive power and other track going items, such as motorcars, tampers and even a car or two behind a few of the engines.

Two steam engines, possibly 3 diesels and a bunch of other stuff..........Sounds fun!

Would love to hear any other ideas!

Hi John, I met you in 1999 if you remember!
Another idea is to line-up motive power on separate tracks if such a situation is possible like in a yard. The Cumbres and Toltec did this in 1992 when they posed 5 operating engines in Chama yard for photos(check their web site for a John Craft shot of this). They were all facing south(into the sun for better photos), then afterwards all taken to the wye, then coupled together for a 5 engine run(with each whistle for the crossing)back to the yard. Modications of this can be adopted to individual railroads with multiple power.
