Does anyone know what, if any, rolling stock from the Arkansas Valley Interurban is still in existence? AVI #7, a 1910 St. Louis interurban, was reported by Alan Lind's book "From Horsecars to Streamliners" as being at the Wichita Historical Museum, but I haven't been able to confirm its existence. AVI box motor #12 is supposedly preserved at the Great Plains Transportation Museum. AVI #84 has been rumored to be preserved at some place called Steel Town Trolleys in Colorado. If anyone knows anything about any of these cars (confirm or deny) or any other preserved cars from the AVI, I would appreciate information. |

I also thought that the Great Plains Transportation Museum (Wichita Chapter NRHS) had a body of a AVI car. But a look at its website does not list such a car. Does anyone know what happened? Did it belong to someone else who moved it away? Has the museum moved it away because of its condition and are only listing equipment on public view? I sent a message to the webmaster for the Great Plains Transportation Museum (Wichita Chapter NRHS) asking if they did not have a body of an Arkansas Valley Interurban. I received a reply this evening: The museum does have the body of AVI #12. It is stored at the rear of their property. The body is suffering from being outside in the elements and is not an active display of the museum. Brian Norden bnorden@gateway.net |
