I was working this summer at Union Station Los Angeles when the Silver Horizon was stored there for a few days. Dignitaries from Pinal County and Maricopa came to see the car. They purchased it for no small sum from Les Casten, a dealer. The A/C and water tanks and lots of other stuff were gone from the car before the Arizona contingent saw it. Even the tail light lens was a mere piece of flat red plastic. It was a shame to see it headed for a location so far from its home road. Utility, not accurate restoration seemed to be on the new owner's minds.

I realize that the use of SILVER HORIZON for a train depot may not be liked (and I understand why.) But does anyone have any idea how this project is coming? AMTRAK points out in their current timetables that a stop will be made there "sometime in the future." I am tentatively planning an Amtrak trip out west to visit friends in Phoenix (and then go on to ride the Grand Canyon Railroad) and this would be a lot closer than Tucson or some other alternative. But when I called Amtrak and asked I got this "DUHHH" reply. Anyone know of a finish date for the project?
