 Post subject: DRM's RS-11 New Haven 1402
PostPosted: Sat Mar 17, 2001 4:39 am

Danbury Railway Museum's recently acquired RS-11 DRMX 7589 will be departing Selkirk (NY) shortly once CSX mechanical forces have had a chance to correct a brake pipe leak which developed in transit. It will then proceed to Pittsfield MA where it will be interchanged to the Housatonic Railroad. The HRR already has the flatcar with the loco's trucks (the RS-11 is riding on trucks borrowed from DRM's former LIRR cab car 617)& will deliver both to DRM at the same time. Speaking for the DRM & as the project manager for the search & rescue of this unit, I would like to thank CSX for the care & attention they've given to our artifact. This is the third DRM locomotive CSX has handled (B&M 2-6-0 1455 & LIRR 617) & once again everyone from the folks in Jacksonville to all the trainmasters, yardmasters, dispatchers, inspectors & train crews have been fantastic. I would also like to thank TTX for their continued support of DRM with the use of their flatcar & of course the Housatonic Railroad, our gateway to the outside world, without whom our collection would be a shell of what it is. Three quarters of DRM's nearly 50 pieces have been delivered by the HRR. The remainder of the pieces were delivered by the Providence & Worcester, trucked in or donated by Metro North. Again our thanks & gratitude.I would also like to thank all the members & individuals who graciously donated funding for the cause. We couldn't have done it without them.
What next? Once the unit arrives in Danbury CT, a crew which is already forming, will cosmetically restore the 1956 ALCo to her New Haven livery & number,1402. Restoration to service will take place after a full assessment can be made & funding secured. The full story of how I found her & what it took to get her back home to Danbury will be told as soon as it stops unfurling. In the meanwhile, anyone with any questions or interest in being involved with this project should contact me at DRMFREITAG@aol.com
Membership in DRM is not expensive but is required to physically take part in the restoration.
Sincerely Ron Freitag VP,CMO Danbury Railway Museum
